I would not call the mx-3 a crappy econobox

Not at all lol

Crappy ecoboxes are at the very bottom of my list.

You sir have strange and questionable tastes

Yeah they are a bit above that designation. More of a sporty economy coupe. I love that fastback 2 door hatch style. They need to bring that shit back.

I know...sigh.

I just really want to drive one just so I can not care about it and beat on it. I grow too attached to my cars and care about the slightest of scuffs and door dings and stuff.

I love econoboxes. I’m really interested in the new Chevy Spark that’s coming out in a couple months.

I feel the same way, except I’d rather have a truck or suv to protect my nicer cars

Unfortunately though, I like trucks and suvs and would want to take good care of them too

I’m pretty neurotic about maintenance

The Spark is one of the most fun rentals I've had lately. Got the pleasure (?) of driving a Mirage earlier this week and it was comically bad. It's funny how different they are.

Really? I thought the mirage would be funner to drive..it has a lot less weight. Which leads to me to another point. Why is the spark soooo heavy? Americans honestly can’t understand weight reduction, not even slightly.

That was pretty evident when Ford somehow managed to make the Fiesta almost 300 lbs heavier than the Mazda 2 even though they have the same chassis. It’s like they don’t even try.

Oh my god YES! That is one of the things that really made me shake my head when I saw that. 2300 lb Mazda2, great to drive. 2600 lb Fiesta, pretty okay to drive. Why do they need to do that...

My daily driver is that generation of Accent hatch (although mine is a base trim)! Mine is an ‘09 Accent. Great little car...pretty reliable so far. I bought it at 54,000km and it’s at 90,500km with no issues really so far other than a needing to get the ignition sensor coil thing that picks up the key chip in the ignition replaced (because it took 2-3 tries to start it, so not even that big an issue because it always DID start eventually).

110hp doesn’t sound like much (and it’s not), but the car is pretty sprightly enough, and the hatchback gives it so much more practicality than the sedan (I know this because my brother and mother both have sedan Accents of the same generation). I’ve never tried any...hard...driving with it, so I can’t speak to the handling that much, but I’ve had to swerve to avoid things and animals in the road and it’s always seemed fairly composed. They are a pretty good used value I think. I got a deal on mine in 2013 when I bought it for $6700 all-in, including fees, etc. and everything - got it used from a local Mazda dealership. No options at all on mine - no A/C, no ABS, no power windows/mirrors/locks/remote keyless, no Cruise Control.

I’m not sure. Maybe there’s some setting somewhere that I couldn’t turn off, but every time I really pressed the gas an “Eco” light would illuminate on the dash and it suddenly felt like I was driving with the handbrake on. Considering this was trying to merge onto the freeway in SoCal (when it was moving...I'd have been fine in rush hour) it was slightly terrifying. Not that the Spark is fast but it at least gives the impression that it's trying to go.

As I drive one, somehow these all manual death traps appeal to my basic taste.

They don't lie about what it is, a-b transport.

I envy you. Haha. Enjoy your Accents. They are as cute as my Miata. I wouldn’t mind DDing one, I would just want AC though. The lines on the Accent is extremely clean, the side comes from the top of the headlight in one straight line to the top of the taillight. And the roofline is fluid, including the hatch in one sweep, but its not too round like a beetle.

Considering I couldn’t turn the radio off either, I may just be a total moron. But I didn’t see a corresponding Eco button anywhere, and trust me, I looked. One of those times when an owners manual would've come in handy.

The Paseo is a sporty Tercel. Both being 90s Toyotas, they are great cars that will last a long long time. You could even get a convertible Paseo in 96-97.

I’ve had a very odd desire for a Kia Rondo V6 lately. There is something I really like about tiny vans, which is part of the reason my wife has a 2010 Fit. And I kinda like the way they look, even though they are hideous. I want to get on and slamm it on airride, and put some big blingy hellafush yo rims on it. And I wouldn’t even feel bad about it.

That’s why I’ve actually grown to enjoy driving my wife’s old Cavalier. It’s not at all a car you’d call “fun to drive” in fact all the cars you listed fit that description much better.

The suspension is too soft, the engine hates you for making it do anything but idle, and sounds like how a lecture from your dad feels, and to top it off the transmission acts like it was having a nice nap, and your really bothering it.

But by god I’ve made that car to some fun things, because I just don’t give two kitten sized shits about it. I chuck it into corners, I floor it around roud-a-bouts, I beat the hell out ot if, and I don’t feel bad. Because not only do I hate it for being a 90’s GM pile of hateful toxic waste, but also it’s rocker panels have gone missing and it’s days are numbered anyway.

You had me bust out laughing. Oh man I need to own one of these fantastic crapcans..not as bad as 90s GM, I don’t absolutely hate myself...i’m thinking something like a high mileage, beat up Hyundai Tiburon V6. Man, that’d be fun to beat on. Its so relatively new for the price range it is in. Thank you korean car depreciation. Then we can meet up and drag race the tibby and the rondo. Lol.
